This Amazonian adventure is designed with the bird-watching enthusiast in mind. With 18.5% of the world’s bird species and 45% of all neo-tropical species, Peru is a birder’s Mecca. The trip starts in Cusco and travels through various climate zones before reaching the Amazon basin. The southern Peruvian Amazon is home to myriad species of bird life, many of them exclusive to this region. Watching Peru’s national bird, the Cock-of-the-Rock, performing its courtship ritual dance is something to be seen. Another highlight is observing parrots and macaws in a wild display of sight and sound. Other features of this unique trip are the Amazon’s diverse animal and plant life. We will also travel through the Sacred Valley of the Incas and get a taste of traditional Andean life.
Day 01. Cusco - Paradise Lodge (Bus & hikes) Drive from Cusco to our lodge, from the Andes to the gateway to the Amazon – the cloud forest and our comfortable lodge.
Day 02. Paradise Lodge - Atalaya - Lodge (Bus, hikes & boat) After out first night in the cloud forest we will walk in the forest to observe the cock-of-the-rock and then journeying downriver from Atalaya to our lodge.
Day 03. Atalaya – Clay lick - Paradise Lodge Early visit the parrots and macaws Clay lick, exploring the trail system in the morning followed by afternoon return trip to Paradise Lodge.
Day 04. Paradise Lodge - Sacred Valley or Cusco (Bus) Our final day in the forest before the drive to the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
